Texas Players in the news

April 5th, 2009

Army’s 17-3 victory over VMI marked the 700th victory in program history. Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, Navy and Hobart are the only other programs with 700 or more victories. It was a good opener all around for the Black Knights: Many former players were at the game, including two with more than a passing rooting interest.
Patrick O’Sullivan was an All-American midfielder at Army in the mid-1980s; Kevin MacGibbon was an All-American goalie in the late-1970s. Each has a son on this year’s team, and each son — James MacGibbon (Plano,TX.) and Sean O’Sullivan (Centreville, Va.) — scored his first career goal on Saturday.
“Our alumni is very in tune with what’s going on with the program,” Alberici says. “They’ve supported the Wounded Warrior program and the Army-Navy alumni game.”
And two alums in particular had reason to be proud with win No. 700.
“I thanked [MacGibbon and O’Sullivan’s] fathers for their support of the program,” Alberici says. “And for sending us their offspring.”
